Foxamp 0.4.1 released

Hot on the heels of the release of Foxamp 0.4 comes Foxamp 0.4.1. The new version fixes a bug which might cause the buttons to stop working when no Winamp path is specified in the settings, and also adds support for 64-bit versions of Firefox (such as Waterfox).

I’ve released version 0.4 of Foxamp, which features an architectural change in that Foxamp no longer launches an external process (Winamp Control Centre) to interface with Winamp, instead controlling Winamp directly through a DLL. This may lead to slightly better performance. It also seems to have fixed a bug where the song title wouldn’t update. You can download the new version here, or it’ll be available on the Mozilla Add-ons site soon.

Figured I should post a message of some sort, seeing as it’s a new year. So, I hope 2013 is good to you all. I do have various plans for this site, and my other sites, but time is not on my side – too much going on in “real life” I’m afraid. So expect some dribs and drabs over the coming few months.

File3D 1.2 released (yes, really, I’ve updated an ancient Windows 3.1 utility)

In what must surely be a contender for “most pointless software upgrade ever”, I came across the source code to File3D the other day. As one of the first things I ever programmed in C, back in 1999, the code was pretty bad. So I decided to tidy it up and release a new version. File3D 1.2 doesn’t do anything much different in terms of functionality, but it does have some installer improvements, and also features a Windows NT 3.51 version. (It should work in NT 3.1 and 3.5 too, but I haven’t been able to test it properly.)

If you happen to be one of the 3 people still using Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows NT 3.51, or the lesser-spotted Windows 3.11 or Windows for Workgroups 3.1, and you don’t already have a program like Calmira to make your entire Windows experience 3D, then feel free to download File3D 1.2 today. And then tell me about it, because I’d like to know that you exist!

New Aegean Airlines mileage earning calculator

With the near-demise of bmi (British Midland), it seems many Diamond Club members have flocked to the Aegean Airlines programme, Miles&Bonus. So it seems only appropriate that I should create a calculator for it. The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice that I’ve labelled this the “Star Alliance calculator” – I intend to add some further airlines to this in time.

TTDX Editor 1.20 released

Following in the footsteps of December’s Saved Game Manager update, I have released a new version of TTDX Editor, the first since 2004! The main feature is improved compatibility with modern versions of Windows (although TTDX Editor was less broken in this respect than the Saved Game Manager). The new version also includes a handful of bug fixes and some other minor improvements. If you’re interested, you can download it here.

I’m intending to release a new version of TTDAlter with similar improvements at some point in the future (although I’ve yet to start work on it, and TTDAlter was by far the most complex of my Transport Tycoon utilities). In the longer term, I also would like to work on versions of TTDAlter and TTDX Editor that work with OpenTTD (manipulating GRF files in the case of TTDAlter), but those will both basically involve complete rewrites. Maybe in another 8 years, eh?

Doesn’t time fly?

Apologies for the lack of any real blogs in the past two years or so. I can’t honestly say that you’re likely to see many more blogs in the near future, I just don’t have that much to write about, and tend to find I have other things keeping me busy when I do (funny how kids do that to you!). But rest assured that things are good in the life of the supreme ruler, and that I’m keeping busy and mostly out of trouble!

Firefox 10 released – Foxamp should still work!

As regular Foxamp users will know, I’ve generally had to release a new version of Foxamp each time Firefox was updated – despite the fact that this shouldn’t be necessary as of Firefox 4 or so. I wrote in November that that should no longer be the case – however, I was, it seems wrong. However, Firefox now seems to be able to upgrade Foxamp in such a way that it does work even without downloading a new version of it. I’ve tried upgrades and fresh installs, and it all seems to work, at long last. So, if anybody does have any problems, please let me know. Otherwise, happy Foxamping!

Also, I know there are still a few issues with this version, and people have sent me other feature requests too, and I do hope to be able to release a new version at some point. Mostly the issue is finding the time, unfortunately!

British Airways Executive Club earnings calculator

As some of you know, I have become a bit of a frequent flyer over the past few years, and created an earnings calculator for bmi Diamond Club a couple of years ago. With bmi’s impending sale to British Airways, I’ve now created an earnings calculator for the British Airways Executive Club, showing how many Avios and tier points you’ll earn on any given itinerary. There may be some bugs or incorrect values in it – let me know if you spot anything that’s wrong, or if you have any other comments about it.
