Transport Tycoon for mobile devices coming soon
Filed under: — orudge @ 15/07/2013 2:27 pm
Today it was announced that Chris Sawyer, in conjunction with Origin8 Technologies and AppyNation, will be releasing a new version of Transport Tycoon for iOS and Android devices. You can find out more information on the new game at the official Transport Tycoon web site, and you can discuss new developments over on the forums.
It’s quite exciting to hear of new official developments regarding Transport Tycoon, and it’ll be interesting to see how the game is adapted to suit mobile platforms. The press release suggests “every element of what made the original such a prestigious and enduring piece of entertainment” will be retained. I’ll post more updates when they emerge, and I look forward to a new generation of players discovering the excitement of Transport Tycoon!
Last time I read Sawyers comments on Transport Tycoon franchise he was rather sceptical: ”…it’s unlikely it will ever be updated unless the time and costs can be justified by potential sales and the willingness of the publisher to market an updated version.” (chrissawyergames.com 2003).
So it seems that the money bag is ringing once again – no doubt related to the undiminishing popularity of it’s open-sourced child (OpenTTD).
If I’d be emotional, Chris should at least thank the OpenTTD developers (who have been doing it for free) for keeping that game avaliable and to stop being such a greedy bastard.
Anyhow, let us hope that he learned something from the game’s siblings and will make a game which has survived for decades (a triumph indeed!) more popular with the old and new individuals!
