Meet The Fockers
Saw this last night, a very funny film indeed. The cinema was full, and it looks like it’s going to be full again, as someone else wanted to go and there were only 4 individual seats left… some good films on at the Phoenix this month, going to see the likes of “The Aviator”, “Million Dollar Baby”, and some others.
On the school front, I had the Duffy assessment today in English: didn’t seem to go too badly, although I ran out of time a bit at the end. Did some more speaking about “Un Sac de Billes” in French, as the oral is next Friday! And everything else was as good as it generally is, so toodle pip for now.

Hmm, there was something I wanted to post here, but I can’t remember what it was now. Bit annoying really.
I have an English end-of-unit assessment on Carol Ann Duffy tomorrow – ie, an exam-style one and a half-hour essay on some of her poetry, which I generally find quite interesting. Not written many (if any?) essays on poetry before though, so we’ll see how it goes.
I’ve also got my French oral exam next Friday, which will be… fun. Makes up something like 25%, if not more, of my grade, so hopefully it will be OK! Best get back to revision then…
How nerdy are you?
Was sent this little quiz today… take the test today. My results:
Overall, you scored as follows:
47% scored higher (more nerdy), and
53% scored lower (less nerdy). What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:
Somewhat nerdy. I mean face it, you are nerdier than about half the test takers.
Which sounds about right. I’m tired, and must do some more French revision, so au revoir for now!
Ah, a nice cuppa!

Sunday…

… and a chunk of my life has gone up in smoke, literally. Ended up sorting out a load of my stuff yesterday, as I think I mentioned in last night’s blog, and it was burnt today…
For those who don’t know, Ken has uploaded a whole load of interesting videos to his site. I’ve not worked my way through them all yet, but of what I’ve seen of them, they’re quite interesting, so check them out.
Owen out.
And it’s Saturday again…
… and in two months and seven days, I’ll be on exam leave. Did I say that yesterday? Can’t actually remember.
Found this article today, about how AMD kind of ruined Intel’s fun at some conference by hiring a load of planes to spell out the name of a new AMD processor in the sky… well, if you’ve got it, flaunt it, I guess.
The new hardware is working very nicely, pleased with it. On another note, I ended up tidying more stuff up today and throwing out a load of things – about half of my entire life possessions, in fact. Oh well.
Whee, new stuff!
Well, after having three trucks deliver stuff to the house tonight (yes, three!), I now have a load of new bits and bobs. In order of arrival:
- A bunch of blank CD-Rs
- A bunch of blank DVD-Rs
- Some CD/DVD markers
- A bunch of CD cases
- A nice shiney new 17″ Acer TFT monitor… very nice indeed, 1280×1024 resolution, somewhat bigger than my old CTX 15″ (a small 15″ at that) CRT monitor). Will take me a while to get used to everything looking smaller on the screen, but DVDs look very nice. π
- A nice shiney new 16x4x40x40x24x2.4x DVD writer (that’s 16x DVD read/write, 4x DVD rewrite, 40x CD read/write, 24x CD rewrite, 2.4x DVD-R DL writing)
So, all in all, I’m quite happy with this. Very nice indeed. π
LugRadio
owenrudge.net has been mentioned on the latest episode of LugRadio, an amusing British radio show taking a relaxed look at Linux and open source in general. In episode 9, GEM was mentioned, so I e-mailed them to let them know that GEM was still around… I’ve not had a chance to listen to the new show yet, just going to do that later, but I hear that a link was given back to my site, so here I am returning the favour. π Check it out, it’s a very interesting show.
Apart from that, what have I been up to? School, really. There was practically no snow today… someone has said it’s apparently meant to snow tonight, but whether it will, who knows? Must go anyway, dinner soon.
Snow!
Well, it was kind of snowy today (and last night, and the night before when the fire alarm went off, for that matter – brrr!). I woke up at about 7.05am, and was strangely awake rather than in my usual slumber. Someone’s phone was going off, and I then heard someone in the room next door say something. I then decided to look out the window… and everything was snowy! Yay, snow day, thought I! So I listened to Radio Orkney at 7.30am, the usual jingle played, and then… “A message from the Education Department first… all schools in Shetland are closed today…” (so?) “… however, all Orkney schools are open today.” Noooo! But in the end, it wasn’t that bad. A lot of the snow has gone by now, so what it’ll be like tomorrow, I don’t know. We will see, I guess.
Bye bye for now!
Right, Tuesday…
… and tonight’s the night of the Young Enterprise meeting thing. Should be fun(!). Talking about YE, had the Young Enterprise Exam today… wasn’t too bad actually, a lot of writing, but nothing too taxing. Hmm, what else? Saw “Elektra” last night… was an alright film, not particularly deep or anything, but fun enough for a couple of hours entertainment, particularly of the “nice girl” type. π
Oh well… will check out now. Ta ta.
Films, again
Right, quick blog, as I have to go soon, and am still relatively uninspired blog-wise. Probably going to see “Elektra” tonight, not sure what it’ll be like, some people say it’s OK, some people say it’s not, but oh well, I get it free anyway. Apart from that, well, just getting back into the old school routine… got various things this week – Young Enterprise exam tomorrow at 1.30pm, Young Enterprise board meeting tomorrow evening at 7.30pm, Young Enterprise workshop thing in Stromness on Thursday, History end-of-unit test on Friday, so it’s actually turned into kind of a busy week. *sigh* π
Ah, yes, Sunday…
… and I’ve been doing some calculations. It’s 4 weeks until the Easter holidays, which are 2 weeks long. It’s then 5 or 6 weeks until exams (again). A couple of weeks after that, and I’ll be leaving!
So that’s tonight’s exciting story. It was fun, wasn’t it?
Saturday!
Yep, it’s Saturday again, and it’s one of those bored blogs again… been looking at the prices of accommodation at St Andrews, which is slightly scary: from Β£1,736.28 to Β£4,727.09 depending on catering preferences and location. Also, just put in an order for a shiney new 17″ TFT monitor, a dual-layer 16x DVD writer, and some other bits and bobs. So that’s my news for today. π
Finally!
I checked my e-mail this morning, and finally, there was a message in there entitled “UCAS Application Notification”. I log onto UCAS, and – at last! St Andrews have got back to me, and offered me a place conditional on me passing Biology at level C, which shouldn’t be too much of a problem. So I’m generally very happy at the moment. π
House of Flying Daggers

** This Blog Entry Contains Possible Spoilers **
I saw this film last night, it wasn’t too bad, but it wasn’t quite what I expected. For one, I didn’t realise it was entirely in Chinese with English subtitles, although once you get into it, it’s not that much of an annoyance. I also found the whole swinging in the trees thing and throwing bamboo sticks a bit, well, unprobably, as well as the fact that the girl could stay alive for half the film (well, seemingly that) with a dagger in her heart… but oh well, perhaps that’s just me. It wasn’t too bad a film for a couple of hours worth of entertainment, just not the sort of film I’d normally see, I guess, or a bit different, which isn’t always a bad thing.
Prelim results are slowly trickling back in… I got 25 out of 30 in my Alasdair Gray essay for English, which is about the same as I got on the end of unit test, and is an A, so I’m happy enough. Not got the results back for Textual Analysis yet, should get those tomorrow, and all the other subject results remain clouded in mystery at the moment. Got Biology next period, the paper should be marked by then I think/hope, but what the mark will actually be… we will see. French last, where we are studying “Un Sac de Billes”, a text by Joseph Joffo about the Nazi occupation in France in the deuxiΓ©me guerre mondialle (apologies for any misplaced accents or anything there). We were told on the day of the French prelim that we had to finish this book by, well, today, which was a bit of a shock as I still had a couple of hundred of pages to go. A couple of hundred pages later, and here I am. Just.
Hmm, just noticed that Ken has somewhat more in his Downloads section than I noticed on last viewing, so I’ll go and look at some of those.
Actually, I’m going to lunch now. Bye.
Grrr… network slowness!
Hmm, either tt-forums or the orkneyschools network or something is being very slow and very annoying. Grr. Well, I had nothing today, as my last exam was yesterday, and we only go back to school “properly” tomorrow. So, that’s what I’ll do.
Grr, annoyed.
Alexander
Well, Alexander was an excellent film, quite an epic, as these things often are. Good entertainment for a few hours, anyway… Kirsty is writing an essay to Nick, which is rather twisted, bizarre and amusing. Had History today, didn’t seem to go too badly, didn’t remember all that many quotations though. Apart from that, not a lot, I’m going now, ta ta for now.
Shizzle Ma Bizzle

Yep, it’s Monday, and this Monday I present Gizoogle, one of those online translators… but it translates a bit differently. Seen similar things in the past, this one is quite fun too.
Had Biology today – wasn’t excellent, but could have been worse. Am probably going to see Alexander tonight at the cinema, not been in a while and it’s good to keep the old yearly pass well polished!
Well, I’ll say goodbye now. Goodbye.
MGI VideoWave anyone?

Mucho to bloggo

Hmm, well, this is the part now where I forget what I wanted to say for the past couple of days, due to server problems (not with Zernebok, but with the old Adiungo server, which the blog is still on).
Well, for a start, Microsoft has decided that it IS going to make Internet Explorer 7 after all… here. Shame I switched to Firefox, eh?
Ehm, what else… ah yes, Microsoft again. Now they’re trying to teach parents 1337 speak, so watch out next time you’re pwn3d in a game, as it might indicate possible illegal activity! I must say, I do quite like The Register’s report on this, though.
Hmm. Other random stuff… there was stuff, but I can’t remember what it is. Oh well. See you all soon.
