Blog: The Life Of A Supreme Ruler
And the February award goes to…
Sorry about the lack of updates recently, I’ve been very busy, especially with exams and other work. This last week I was also on an Outward Bound Scotland course, which was excellent – the only problem was the week was too short! Anyway, I’ve decided to award the February award to PHP.net, the official PHP home page. It provides a lot of information on PHP (which this site is powered by), as well as documentation, examples and more. Includes links to newsgroups, mailing lists and forums where you can get help with PHP. If you’re a PHP developer, or are interested in web development, this site is recommended. Click here to go to the Awards page. Finally, I hope the new version of Owen’s Transport Tycoon Station will launch soon – within the next month, I’m hoping. Keep checking for details!
And the January award goes to…

… the MSN Gaming Zone. If you’re looking for a way to spend some time, and you like online gaming, the MSN Gaming Zone is a great place to hang out. Loads of games can be played, including freely downloadable games and commercial games such as Age of Empires and Flight Simulator, plus many others. Well worth a visit. Click here to go to the Awards page.
owenrudge.net Download System migration almost complete
Filed under: — orudge @ 02/01/2003 12:00 am
Most of the downloads on the site have now been migrated to the new download system. Some of the saved games available at the Transport Tycoon Station haven’t been migrated yet, but apart from that, everything else should be working now. I have also taken this opportunity to make several small updates to various pages.
Happy New Year!
I hope you all had a great Christmas! 2003 should be an interesting year for owenrudge.co.uk. As you might have noticed, the site is gradually becoming owenrudge.net – downloads are being migrated to a new system, and there will soon be a whole overhaul of the site, including a new design, new and updated content, and so on. What else is happening? Well, I have taken over Adam Trevorrow’s Transport Tycoon Depository, which is becoming part of Owen’s Transport Tycoon Station. The new combined site is getting a brand new design and again, new and updated content. Keep checking back here for more information!
Finally, the December 2002 Award has gone to Dan’s 20th Century Abandonware, a very interesting site with information, screenshots, etc on hundreds of older programs for DOS, Windows, GEM, Macintosh and other platforms. Click here for more information.
Migration to owenrudge.net Download System
Filed under: — orudge @ 15/12/2002 12:00 am
I am starting to migrate downloads to the new owenrudge.net Download System. This includes several mirrors, so you can pick the fastest mirror near you to download from. Currently, some of the Transport Tycoon and GEM downloads have been migrated. When you click a download link, you will get another page which lets you pick a mirror. In future, you will be able to choose a default mirror and the download will automatically start. If you have any problems with the new system, e-mail me.
TTDAlter 4.0.9 Beta released
I have released version 4.0.9 beta of TTDAlter. This contains various new features from 4.0.8, including Disasters support (change when certain disasters occur), bug fixes, and more. 4.0.9 beta does not rely on having existing versions installed, but if you have TTDAlter 4.0-4.0.8 installed, the Setup program will upgrade it automatically. See the TTDAlter page for more information.
And the November award goes to…
… MSDN. While it’s a huge site, it has a good, clear design, and of course bucket loads of information on programming for Windows, IIS, .NET and other Microsoft technologies. Click here for more information.
owenrudge.co.uk is now three years old!
This site is three years old today! Sorry about the lack of updates recently, but I’ve been very busy, and still am. Coming soon: a new version of TTDAlter – keep an eye out for it!
October award, plus Transport Tycoon news
Filed under: — orudge @ 06/11/2002 12:00 am
… TTDPatch.net. TTDPatch is a brilliant patch for Transport Tycoon Deluxe – indeed, it is the patch for TTD. It includes many enhancements, new features, bug fixes, and so on. TTDPatch 1.9 was released very recently – go and get it now if you don’t already! Click here to go to the Awards page.
On the subject of TTD, The Transport Tycoon Forums had a successful launch a few days ago – please do check them out if you enjoy the game, if you have a problem, or just want to meet up with fellow gamers and have a chat. Enjoy!
Finally, I will be releasing a Transport Tycoon Deluxe Utility Pack soon. This will have all the major TTD tools in one convenient package (currently about 5.7mb in size) – TTDPatch (plus full documentation), TTDAlter, TTDX Editor, TTDX Configurator, the Saved Game Manager, GRFCodec and SV1Codec, plus a handy auto-update utility. The update utility will take advantage of the new owenrudge.net Download System currently in development to access the latest releases of the tools spread across the owenrudge.net mirrors. Transport Tycoon Saved Game Manager and TTDAlter will be adopted to take advantage of this new system soon too. A new release of TTSGM is on the horizon, which features a new Office XP-style customizable menu and toolbar system, which will be accessible from an extended plug-in system. New plug-ins planned include a system where you can associate a TTDPatch configuration file with every saved game, edit it (via TTDX Configurator) and launch TTDPatch with the new settings, all from a new TTDPatch menu. Another plug-in will let you select game(s) to e-mail, and will then compress them into a ZIP (or CSG if you prefer, which is just a ZIP with extended information for the Manager) and open up a new e-mail message with the files attached. Keep an eye out here for more information coming soon.
Transport Tycoon.co.uk forums and owenrudge.co.uk TT forum merging
Filed under: — orudge @ 27/10/2002 12:00 am
The Transport Tycoon.co.uk forums and owenrudge.co.uk TT forum will be merging soon to form the Transport Tycoon Forums. This will be an independent forum site where Transport Tycoon fans can meet and discuss the game, get help with problems, and have a general talk about anything. The forums should be up within a week or so – when this happens, the owenrudge.co.uk Transport Tycoon forum will be locked and a link will be placed to the new site. Keep checking the site for new developments!
TTDAlter 4.0.8 Beta released
I have released version 4.0.8 beta of TTDAlter. This is a patch which fixes a saving bug that sometimes occurred with non-English versions of TTD. It is highly recommended that you get this update, which requires TTDAlter 4.0.6 beta. Click here for more information. (In case anyone was wondering, I didn’t jump from version 4.0.6 to 4.0.7, but briefly released version 4.0.7 beta, which half-fixed this problem – I hadn’t had a chance to update the web site though. The next day I discovered the problem still partially existed and so released 4.0.8 beta).
And the September award goes to…
… TV Home and the accompanying TV Forum. A great site full of UK television idents, and a great set of forums to go with it. Click here for more information. Also, at some point soon, owenrudge.co.uk will receive a new design, and will be rebranded as owenrudge.net. One new feature will be a new download system – I already have two US mirrors and a French mirror. If you could provide a mirror, please e-mail me to discuss the matter. In other news, MP3Violation.com, a comedy MP3 sharing site, is now part of the Owen Rudge Network. Keep an eye out for future developments.
The current poll…
I go away for two days and look what happens… the votes on my poll seem to rocket in favour of Linux. Why? Someone posted a link to this site on comp.os.linux.advocacy, and various people noticed that the poll system did not check IP addresses to see if you’ve voted (it does now). So several people write scripts, and up goes the votes… Ah well, the threads ("Yet another on-line OS poll" and "Small poll on OS usage") made for interesting reading.
Site updates
I have been very busy these past few months, and still am now. Anyway, I’ve awarded the August award to Guess The Dictator or Sit-Com Character, a brilliant site which will keep you busy for ages! I’ve also fixed the link to the guestbook and upgraded it – please do sign it!
The old Britney Spears poll has been changed. The majority of people weren’t huge fans of Britney Spears in any way, while a number of people liked her looks but not their music. Some others liked her music but not her looks, and some liked everything about her. Click here to view the full results. The new poll is about your computer – what operating system are you running? At the time of writing, the results are quite interesting – the majority of voters are using Mac OS X, with 27% of the votes, followed by Windows XP with 22%. Is this just because Windows users aren’t voting, or are Macs becoming more popular these days? Be sure to place your vote!
In August, The Melissa Zone Forums launched, replacing the Melissa Joan Hart forum at the owenrudge.co.uk Forums. If you are a Melissa Joan Hart fan, or a fan of her TV series’, movies and so on, check it out! The Melissa Zone itself will be launching in the coming months.
I have also uploaded some more screenshots to DesktopShots. Finally, I have released TTDAlter 4.0.6, which features support for industry editing in TTD. It also supports the loading of VEHICLE.DAT files. If you have a previous version of TTDAlter, upgrade now! If you don’t have TTDAlter but enjoy playing TTD, check this out! PS: If you have had a strange problem with some browsers where all the content appears half-way down the page instead of where it should be, this should now be fixed. If you still experience problems, please e-mail me.
TTDAlter 4.0.5 Beta patch released
I have released a small patch for TTDAlter 4.0 Beta. This contains several new features and updates. Click here for more information and to download the patch.
And the June and July awards go to…
… The Transport Tycoon Semi-FAQ and Mandrake Linux. Click here to go to the Awards page. Also, I have now "officially" stopped OSPlus development, although I will still do work on the Disk Imager and Text Editor when I can. Click here for more information.
TTDAlter 4.0 Beta released!
Sorry for the lack of updates over the past couple of months, but I was on holiday for most of July then a BIOS flash operation went wrong and I was without my main computer until Wednesday. On the positive side, I now have a nice fast new computer, and I bought a new 60GB HD yesterday. Anyway, TTDAlter 4.0 Beta has been released – click here to find out more. I’ll award the Site of the Month, etc, tomorrow, or whenever I have time – Windows just corrupted my registry and restored everything to how it was this morning, when I hadn’t even installed any drivers… *sigh*
Loads of new screenshots uploaded to DesktopShots
Filed under: — orudge @ 15/06/2002 12:00 am
I’ve uploaded over 20 new screenshots to DesktopShots (no, they haven’t all been waiting months in my mailbox!) – check them out!
And the May award goes to…
… the Microsoft Software Forum Network – an excellent set of forums providing you with helpful support and hints. Click here to go to the Awards page. On another note, I have finally got around to uploading some more screenshots to DesktopShots. Finally, remember to check out the new forums!
New forums!
I have set up some new forums to replace the old UltraBoard 2000 system. These new forums are much better, and have a number of new, improved and extra features. The old posts and user accounts have been retained and migrated – you should have received an e-mail about your user account: please note that your password has changed. If you have a direct link to the UltraBoard forums, please change this to www.owenrudge.co.uk/forums/. Click here to go to the forums! By the way, I’ll have some new DesktopShots screenshots up soon – I’m in the middle of exams and so on and am very busy right now. Also, owenrudge.co.uk has almost had 100,000 hits! By the time you read this, it probably will be past there already! Thanks to all my visitors!
