Friday…

… and the Stronsay ones couldn’t get home as the boat to Stronsay was cancelled because of the weather. Luckily, Sanday got home so here I am now! The weather outlook for Orkney for the next week or so is very wintry and snowy looking, so it could be fun, or not. Cold, anyway.

Meet The Fockers

Saw this last night, a very funny film indeed. The cinema was full, and it looks like it’s going to be full again, as someone else wanted to go and there were only 4 individual seats left… some good films on at the Phoenix this month, going to see the likes of “The Aviator”, “Million Dollar Baby”, and some others.

On the school front, I had the Duffy assessment today in English: didn’t seem to go too badly, although I ran out of time a bit at the end. Did some more speaking about “Un Sac de Billes” in French, as the oral is next Friday! And everything else was as good as it generally is, so toodle pip for now.

Wednesday 9th March 2005

Hmm, there was something I wanted to post here, but I can’t remember what it was now. Bit annoying really.

I have an English end-of-unit assessment on Carol Ann Duffy tomorrow – ie, an exam-style one and a half-hour essay on some of her poetry, which I generally find quite interesting. Not written many (if any?) essays on poetry before though, so we’ll see how it goes.

I’ve also got my French oral exam next Friday, which will be… fun. Makes up something like 25%, if not more, of my grade, so hopefully it will be OK! Best get back to revision then…

How nerdy are you?

Was sent this little quiz today… take the test today. My results:

Overall, you scored as follows:

47% scored higher (more nerdy), and
53% scored lower (less nerdy).

What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:

Somewhat nerdy. I mean face it, you are nerdier than about half the test takers.

Which sounds about right. I’m tired, and must do some more French revision, so au revoir for now!

Sunday…

… and a chunk of my life has gone up in smoke, literally. Ended up sorting out a load of my stuff yesterday, as I think I mentioned in last night’s blog, and it was burnt today…

For those who don’t know, Ken has uploaded a whole load of interesting videos to his site. I’ve not worked my way through them all yet, but of what I’ve seen of them, they’re quite interesting, so check them out.

Owen out.

And it’s Saturday again…

… and in two months and seven days, I’ll be on exam leave. Did I say that yesterday? Can’t actually remember.

Found this article today, about how AMD kind of ruined Intel’s fun at some conference by hiring a load of planes to spell out the name of a new AMD processor in the sky… well, if you’ve got it, flaunt it, I guess.

The new hardware is working very nicely, pleased with it. On another note, I ended up tidying more stuff up today and throwing out a load of things – about half of my entire life possessions, in fact. Oh well.

Whee, new stuff!

Well, after having three trucks deliver stuff to the house tonight (yes, three!), I now have a load of new bits and bobs. In order of arrival:

  • A bunch of blank CD-Rs
  • A bunch of blank DVD-Rs
  • Some CD/DVD markers
  • A bunch of CD cases
  • A nice shiney new 17″ Acer TFT monitor… very nice indeed, 1280×1024 resolution, somewhat bigger than my old CTX 15″ (a small 15″ at that) CRT monitor). Will take me a while to get used to everything looking smaller on the screen, but DVDs look very nice. ๐Ÿ˜€
  • A nice shiney new 16x4x40x40x24x2.4x DVD writer (that’s 16x DVD read/write, 4x DVD rewrite, 40x CD read/write, 24x CD rewrite, 2.4x DVD-R DL writing)

So, all in all, I’m quite happy with this. Very nice indeed. ๐Ÿ™‚

LugRadio

owenrudge.net has been mentioned on the latest episode of LugRadio, an amusing British radio show taking a relaxed look at Linux and open source in general. In episode 9, GEM was mentioned, so I e-mailed them to let them know that GEM was still around… I’ve not had a chance to listen to the new show yet, just going to do that later, but I hear that a link was given back to my site, so here I am returning the favour. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Check it out, it’s a very interesting show.

Apart from that, what have I been up to? School, really. There was practically no snow today… someone has said it’s apparently meant to snow tonight, but whether it will, who knows? Must go anyway, dinner soon.

Snow!

Well, it was kind of snowy today (and last night, and the night before when the fire alarm went off, for that matter – brrr!). I woke up at about 7.05am, and was strangely awake rather than in my usual slumber. Someone’s phone was going off, and I then heard someone in the room next door say something. I then decided to look out the window… and everything was snowy! Yay, snow day, thought I! So I listened to Radio Orkney at 7.30am, the usual jingle played, and then… “A message from the Education Department first… all schools in Shetland are closed today…” (so?) “… however, all Orkney schools are open today.” Noooo! But in the end, it wasn’t that bad. A lot of the snow has gone by now, so what it’ll be like tomorrow, I don’t know. We will see, I guess.

Bye bye for now!

Right, Tuesday…

… and tonight’s the night of the Young Enterprise meeting thing. Should be fun(!). Talking about YE, had the Young Enterprise Exam today… wasn’t too bad actually, a lot of writing, but nothing too taxing. Hmm, what else? Saw “Elektra” last night… was an alright film, not particularly deep or anything, but fun enough for a couple of hours entertainment, particularly of the “nice girl” type. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh well… will check out now. Ta ta.
