Revision!
I’ve been busy this weekend with revision, particularly for Biology, which is on Wednesday, and which I need to pass. SCHOLAR particularly has helped unc loud some of the c loudier parts, so hopefully it’ll help! ๐
Advanced Higher English
Well, today was the first of my 3rd set of SQA exams, and it wasn’t too bad. Three hours in the Conference Room wasn’t that fun, but the first essay (Critical Essay on Alasdair Gray’s “Lanark”) didn’t go too badly, I thought. The second essay, Textual Analysis on a short story about a man obsessed with his dead mother, wasn’t quite as good in my opinion, but I guess I’ll have to wait until August to find out how it goes!
I got some good news today from St. Andrews, my scholarship application has been successful and I’ve been offered a Wardlaw Scholarship worth a few thousand a year, which is excellent news. Now I just need to pass Biology to get into St. Andrews! Will be busy this weekend, I reckon…
English tomorrow!
And it’s been an enjoyable day today. Well, it’s been a day today. No school any more, so it was just revision really, and then a number of us from the hostel had a game of rounders (or softball, or something, the rules were never really agreed on by all quarters), which went fairly well until somebody got hit in the nose by the ball. :-/ Looked like it hurt a bit, too.
Will write more tomorrow night, including an update on the Progress of the Exams! Wish me luck!
School’s out…
… forever. Unless I happen to become a teacher or something like that, which isn’t currently my plan, but you never know! We had quite a good day today – didn’t do any work, funnily enough, but it was enjoyable enough – and not too mischievous, on my part anyway. ๐
What from now on? A brief timetable of my futureish plans:
May: Exams (yay), random nothingness/catching up with computery stuff (TTDAlter, UTTGR, etc)
June: Probably more random nothingness
July: Become 18. ๐ Sell house, go to North Wales hopefully.
August: Perhaps go on a ‘little’ trip to Bulgaria, assuming we sell the house in reasonable time. Receive exam results. Hopefully find that I am going to St. Andrews.
September: Start university.
So that’s me for the next few months. ๐
One day…

And today wasn’t too bad a day. Started off with my last ever period of Advanced Higher English, which was mainly revision of Gray and Hogg. Then it was my probably last ever period of AH French (double-period, in fact), involving an essay on “Un Sac de Billes”, which seemed to go OK, and also some reading and listening practice – not too bad, hopefully next Tuesday will be OK. Finally, a possibly-but-not-necessarily final period of Higher History, which was just revision. Then we all (our guidance class) went down to the Sands Hotel in Burray for a meal, which was quite nice, instead of Young Enterprise. So, that’s that for the day, and I’ll see you all tomorrow, as an ex-school pupil!
Two days to go…

As title. ๐
Did I mention that…
… I’ve got three days of school left? Not quite sure what I’m going to talk about after that, I’m sure I’ll find something. This won’t be a very long entry as I’ve got to go and finish my French piece on “Un sac de billes”, which is exciting. English exam on Friday, hopefully it’ll all go well!
Towers

And another exciting Saturday at Rudge HQ. Was lifeguarding today… the most exciting thing that happened was probably someone having a verruca and it having to be covered up by a plaster before they could go in the pool. Better than having to do CPR though, I guess!
My DVD of The Empire Strikes Backyard arrived this week… for those who don’t know, TESBY is a very funny film, being Episode II of Star Wars. Check it out if you like Star Wars. ๐ You may also find other films there, such as “Doom Raiders”, quite funny. Episode III of Star Wars, “The Emperor’s New Clones”, is under production now! ๐
Night all. And a happy birthday to Ken for yesterday.
3 schooldays and counting
So, I’ve had my final Friday of school. Fridays have perhaps been my favourite days of the week for the past school year, my timetable consisting of two free periods, then Biology, English, another free period, and finally Guidance – a fairly easy day, and the end of the week! But all (good?) things must come to an end, and the Fridays of S6 are one of those things.
Things have been rather kicking off on Ken’s scrawl wall… I’d like to post my point of view here, that I do wish Shoogle all the best, and I don’t think their product is bad – quite the contrary. My little rant was simply me expressing my feelings after the initial disappointment of losing. Let’s all just be friends, eh? ๐
Archive expansion
As this is “the life of a supreme ruler”, I’ve been thinking that I might expand this to cover a bit more of my life – more specifically, covering the Outward Bound Classic Course 2003, when I went to the Loch Eil centre and spent 3 weeks there. I made a little journal which I may enter into the blog archives, much like I did with the old 1996 entries you can find here. If I’m bored, I may do that. I do truly believe that I have found a niche – a web site detailing my life, and now I intend to go back and fill it. Ultimately, I may well succeed. ๐
It’s been quite a long day today – full timetable (minus a free period in the middle), with a 3.25pm end. Although 3 of the 5 days have a 3.25pm finish, two of them don’t have ‘proper’ lessons at the end of the day so they don’t seem so heavy. Oh well, in a week’s time I’ll be on study leave, only 4 more schooldays left! Mad, eh?
The blog returns…

Apologies for that little bit of downtime, shouldn’t happen once the blog is moved to Zernebok, which will be this month sometime. ๐ Went to see Constantine tonight, was quite a good film. Billy Connoly is in Orkney just now doing a performance, so the Picky was quite busy tonight. Don’t have too much time right now, so will say bye bye for now. Bye bye.
6 days…
… of school left. 5 if you don’t count the last day, which is taken up by sixth year activities, assemblies, and so on. 10 days until Advanced Higher English. Fun!
Would the real Shoogle member please stand up? As a follow-up to some of my recent posts, an anonymous user came along and posted their opinion. Is said anonymous user the same user who commented at Ken’s site? Or not? Let us know. ๐
Hmm, next major countdown after Friday 13th will be until the 23rd, I reckon (last day). Then, hmm, 3rd June perhaps? Maybe the 9th? After that, likely the 9th July (my 18th birthday). It should be exciting!
Skype!
Been playing with Skype over the past couple of days… tis really quite fun, but what’s more fun is that I’ve just discovered that it works on the school system. ๐ฎ Skype lets you phone (and chat with, send files to, etc) other Internet users for free, and also lets you call normal phones – practically anywhere in the world – for a very small price (about a penny per minute). It’s fun. ๐ Feel free to “Skype Me!” – my username is orudge. See you round. ๐
Seven days!
Yep, seven days of school left, and I don’t go back to school until Tuesday now as it’s the May Day bank holiday tomorrow. Got lifeguard training later today, should be fun, and I’m currently waiting for a new hard disk to be installed in Zernebok, as the current one is apparently going to fail. :-/ The company should be replacing it today, I hope, so things will be back to normal soon. ๐
Advertising time now… if you’re wanting an exciting photographer for a portrait or similar, Robert Lamont is your man. Check out the pictures of Ken while you’re there. ๐
Hmm, time for a spot of lunch, I reckon!
Only 1ยฝ months…
… until Shoogle go down to Edinburgh for the Young Enterprise Scotland finals. Yes, they won last night, and we didn’t. We and many others think this was perhaps somewhat unfair, as we did put in a lot of hard work for our product, more than we think Stromness did (who only launched their product last week – we launched ours at Christmas, having worked since August or so, and are currently in the process of producing the second edition). The competition was very close, and apparently the Stromness guidebook (a rehash of last year’s guidebook) was “more viable”, which wasn’t really fair as this was only meant to be a short-term project. But oh well, you win some, you lose some…
On another note, Hong Kong Broadband has officially launched their 1Gbit/sec home broadband service for the small fee of US$215/month. Imagine what you could do with all that bandwidth…
Night all.
Hmm, 6 hours to go…
… until the presentation. The PowerPoint is complete and ready to go, as is the display stand one. Ken and Leanne seem to know their lines. So… may the best board game manafacturer win! ๐
9 days…
… and tonight might be the first night since Sunday when I can actually get to sleep at a decent time without having to worry about work, presentations, or whatever! Maybe. As I’ve mentioned quite a lot, we have the Effigy presentation evening tomorrow night, and we’ve got the actual PowerPoint presentation complete now. The speech is basically written, so now we just need Ken and Leanne to learn it! The special money is more or less cut up – need to reprint a couple of pages – and hopefully everything will go smoothly. That’s the plan.
10 days…
… and today Effigy donated ยฃ500 to CLIC. Expect to see our photos in the local papers later this week. Talking about Effigy, presentation is getting closer, got a meeting tonight about it, so I’m quite busy.
Gotta go, things to be done!
11 days and counting…
… and things are still busy, busy, busy! The fire alarm went off last night at about 10.45pm, when I was just finishing off my essay on “Un sac de billes”, and it stayed on for about 50 minutes, as the inhabitants of E4 had managed to get water in one of the fire alarms, and the fire alarm didn’t want to go off… *sigh* By the time I got back to my room, I was too tired to finish the essay, so went to sleep. Woke up then at around 7am from a dream where I was thinking how I had to finish my essay, and guess what? I had to finish my essay. So I did, mostly. All fun stuff.
Young Enterprise presentation on Thursday, a number of things to do by then, including finishing the PowerPoint presentation, doing a “background” presentation for the stand perhaps, printing some special money and other exciting things…
Have you ever noticed how people sneeze differently? I noticed that some people seem to have little “bark-like” sneezes, other people have quite loud dirty-sounding sneezes, and some people are just in the middle. Exciting.
Well, I’ll leave you now, dinner time, but I’ll Be Back!โข
12 schooldays and counting…
Yep, that’s all I have left: twelve actual days of school, before exam leave and then The End Of All Thingsโข. Time flies, eh? Hmm, supper time, and work to be done, so that’s another short blog!
