Blog: The Life Of A Supreme Ruler
Yay, problems again!
Hmm, overnight, JervHost has decided to die again, which means that owenrudge.net is presently inaccessible. *sigh*
Always something with these web servers… the fact is though, my sites are spread out over so many servers, it’s hard to keep track of them. Doing some quick adding up, my entire network of sites is spread over some 10 servers (6 of those are purely download servers though).
EDIT: Well, would you look at that. Literally just after I post this blog entry, owenrudge.net comes back up again! 😀
Strange, that

Hmm, the comments table had managed to lock itself somehow… told it to repair and everything’s fine. Weird. Oh well, I’m back home now. The cPanel license issue on the new server is nearly sorted, stupid company gave me a 2-week license instead of a proper one. :/
That’s that for now, got stuff to do, as is not entirely unusual.
Blog, ehm, messed up
I realise the blog is slightly messed up with MySQL errors, this will be fixed at the weekend. Anyway, don’t have much time, so that’s that for now.
Lunchtime blog
A quick lunchtime blog, might not be able to do it later. Computer room at hostel still closed, and got a students council meeting tonight, and then swimming. The Effigy site is up, so have a look at it. Anyway, bell just rung, so best go!
Hmm
Well, UFOTD ended up going for about $1,600 last night (some £900 or more). I didn’t want to spend quite that much money on it, funnily enough… oh well, there are plenty more fish in the sea. Well, there are some fish in the sea, at least.
Halloween passed last night without that much hassle – a few fireworks were set off (very pretty fireworks, not seen fireworks in quite a while), but that was about the long and short of it, as far as I was concerned. It’s November now though, and over here in the UK, we’re using GMT again. It was actually light when I got up this morning, but it’ll be dark by 4pm, I imagine. Only just-under-two-months until Christmas!
I’m at the library right now as the computer room at the hostel is still shut. I don’t know if it’ll be shut until the end of term if nobody owns up… I might raise this at the Student’s Council meeting tomorrow (which I am a member of… the eldest member, in fact.)
Oh well, toodle pip.
UFOTD… maybe not
Well, I was considering bidding on Useless Fact of the Day, a site which I programmed a few years ago and that generates a nice bit of advertising revenue (and could generate more still with some decent promotion and perhaps a different advertising programme). However, the price has shot up to $744 – that’s £404.95 to me and you, and will likely rise still before 8pm tonight. This is somewhat more than I was ever planning on paying for it… *sigh* Oh well, maybe I’ll (re-)make my own UFOTD, which will be uber-1337 and so on. Or maybe not.
#v76
Ah, it’s been a while since I checked into #v76, but a conversation with oliciv made me pop back there… nothing much seems to have changed from the outset, but who knows with that bunch. 😉
I made a bit of money today, from various online and offline sources, which is good. 🙂 I’m also contemplating buying a web site which ought to provide a bit of revenue… will consider it tomorrow! Oh, and if anyone wants any hosting, please do get in touch, I could make a very reasonable deal! And that’s that for today.
Out of space!
Hmm, the blog and some other sites are still hosted on Adiungo, and something went and filled up all the disk space (5GB)… probably old log files. That caused problems with MySQL and so on, so this blog was unavailable for a bit. I’m just going to free up some space now…
Grrr
Hmm, I’m annoyed, as the computer room at the hostel has been shut, because someone went and got some sort of air freshner thing and smudged it all over the carpet. Can’t people spare a thought for others before being stupid? *sigh* Oh well. Friday tomorrow… keep thinking it’s Tuesday today though. They should have given us the whole week as a holiday, not started half-way through! I guess having just three days makes it a bit easier to “break back in”, or something like that. Anyway, I’m at the library, so I’m going to finish what I’m doing, then head back up to the hostel for dinner. Ta ta for now.
Back at school
Back at school today… woke up this morning at 7.30am, practically pitch black outside… didn’t really want to get up, so I didn’t. But I got up at 8am for breakfast, by which time it was slightly lighter, and by 8.30am it was brighter (or should I say “less dull”) still. But anyway, had French first thing, and that was OK, then biology. Had to do a presentation on specific immune response in animals, which, while it sounds complicated, is actually quite simple. And apart from being attacked by Abigail a few times (just kidding, Abigail ;)), that was that.
Back at the hostel…
Well, I’m back at the hostel again. The place smells kind of funny, but it’s much the same as it always was. Oh well, I’d best go and do my homework, I guess!
tt-forums 2 years old, school tomorrow
Well, the merged entity (it formed from my TT forum and someone else’s) that is tt-forums is two years old today! Pop over there for all the celebrations and all that kak. Tis fun. 🙂
School tomorrow though, that’s slightly less fun. These holidays have a habit of disappearing, especially when you spend a week of them away. (Oh, that reminds me, must write up that report for Mr Ballantine to get £50 towards expenses…). Still got some homework to do, I think. Must check.
Forums moved over to Zernebok
Well, I moved the forums over to the new server yesterday – took a little while (few gigs of data), but it went quite smoothly, and the server is now working happily away serving Transport Tycoon to the masses! The main problem was the old server going down when I was trying to move the data across! Some nice system information and statistics courtesy of PHPSysInfo.
And that’s about that for now.
It’s all she’s got to keep things right
Right, well, sorry for the lack of bloggage yesterday. Server was down last night, which was kind of annoying as I was planning on moving tt-forums then… but oh well. I’m doing that now. Yesterday was OK though – had lifeguarding, which went fine, until Kirsty knocked one of the cones into the water at the end and it had to be fished out. *sigh*
But yes, that’s that for the moment. It might take some time to move tt-forums – quite a few gigabytes of data there. 😉
Another day, another dollar
Well, that’s another day been. Today, I did a bunch of stuff with OpenTTD, and some other things, but I’m rather tired just now, so that’ll be that for today.
Locomotion
I’ve been playing quite a bit of Locomotion over the past few days – currently playing a game in one of the North American West scenarios, have played for about 20 years now, and it’s going quite well, apart from Mr Red AI, who’s being a pest as usual. Many of my towns have suddenly grown massive, including Albuquerque, which reminds me somewhat of the Weird Al song of the same name, which is very funny – have a listen to it if you can.
I’ve got my first session as a pool lifeguard on Saturday, which should be interesting, especially as I’m on with Kirsty, and we both only just became lifeguards. But we’ll see how it goes. 😉
And that, my friends, is that.
We’re back! :)
At last, owenrudge.net is back. Half of my e-mail has gone, but oh well, it’s good to have it back as it is. 🙂 If anyone sent me any really urgent critical e-mails over the past week and I don’t reply, resend them. 😉
It’s like rain on your wedding day
Not that I’ve ever had rain on my wedding day, having never been married. But anyway…
owenrudge.net is still not back, which I’m very annoyed about. It’s been about 5 days now, which is a lot of e-mail, etc, to lose. 🙁
Zernebok, my new server, is working away happily. I’ll probably move tt-forums later this week. If anyone wants anything hosting, I’ve got about 100GB of space and 1250GB/month bandwidth to play with, so contact me and we can discuss the matter. 😉
The future’s bright. The future’s Owen.
Or at least it will be once this stupid owenrudge.net is sorted out. *sigh*
Been doing some Locomotioning today, twas fun. Also started work on Ogg Vorbis music support for OpenTTD – will eventually become a format-independent layer much like the other drivers, etc, in the game. Except that right now it just produces a crackly noise, but it will work, eventually!
Thanks to my mate Rich for the inspiration for today’s blog title. 😉
Back home
OK, I’m back home now, and owenrudge.net still isn’t back up. I have at least had word back from Neil, who runs the server that owenrudge.net is on. Apparently, some 70,000 e-mails were sent to owenrudge.net or something, and it basically overloaded it… it’s meant to be back up soon, we will see. It had better be back soon, anyway! Any correspondence should be sent to owen[at]owenrudge[dot]com, rather than .net, for now.
