Blog: The Life Of A Supreme Ruler
Only 1½ months…

… until Shoogle go down to Edinburgh for the Young Enterprise Scotland finals. Yes, they won last night, and we didn’t. We and many others think this was perhaps somewhat unfair, as we did put in a lot of hard work for our product, more than we think Stromness did (who only launched their product last week – we launched ours at Christmas, having worked since August or so, and are currently in the process of producing the second edition). The competition was very close, and apparently the Stromness guidebook (a rehash of last year’s guidebook) was “more viable”, which wasn’t really fair as this was only meant to be a short-term project. But oh well, you win some, you lose some…
On another note, Hong Kong Broadband has officially launched their 1Gbit/sec home broadband service for the small fee of US$215/month. Imagine what you could do with all that bandwidth…
Night all.
it must be realised by Effigy that Shoogle put an amazing amount of work and effort into their product: a product which was needed, wanted, original and (as was yours) worked on since August.
You launched at Christmas – the optimum time for sale of your product: Shoogle launched in the spring at the start of the tourist season – coincidently the optimum time for sale of their product.
Aside from producing what is a more viable product, Shoogle gave a blatently better presentation at the area finals. We worked and we won – deservedly.
It should also be noted by certain effigy team members that black trousers and shoes should be worn with black (rather than white) socks.

Fair points, I’m not really arguing that. Well, I am sort of. It was just a bit of a shame to lose after all that work, that’s all.
Oh, do you happen to have a name? 🙂

‘original’? how can you say that with a straight face?? lets be serious. Would have preferred to lose to better winners. I would agree that your presentation was superior but we have to remember that this only accounts for a small percentage of the over all mark.
And to make these comments without having the guts tell all who they are coming from is little short of spineless.

Enjoyed the comments – and I am now really sorry I did not get to your area finals, given that there seems to be a bit of rancour, or sour grapes or whatever….
Keep up the good work – you and your ‘commentors’ – and keep up your website.
I was actually looking to plagerise a YES Area Board Chairman’s Annual Report – obviously “Young Enterprise Report” doesn’t work
Bye!

Heh, well, everything’s settled down again now, and we at Effigy have generally been enjoying not having to work really hard to prepare for the Scottish finals. Good luck finding your report. 😉

You couldn’t do much with that bandwidth, seeing as most servers wouldn’t upload at that speed anyhow

Mmh? Oh, the gigabit thing… 😛
Ah, but you could have loads of things going at once, if you have fast enough hard disks!
