No, this site’s not dead… (yet)

Sorry for the lack of updates this past… age. I’ve just been extremely busy! I have been working on the new owenrudge.net, just never yet got around to getting it completely finished. I will try to finish it very soon. In fact, I’ll see if I can finish it this upcoming week. Watch this space. [By the way, if you’ve not been checking the new TT Station, you won’t have noticed the release of TTDAlter 4.1 and TTDX Editor 1.10.16 – check them out!)

And the July, August, September and October awards go to…

… whoever I’ll decide to give them to. I don’t really know right now. Anyway, I just thought I’d get an update in here, as it was getting to that time of the month. Anyway, the new design for owenrudge.net is coming along quite nicely now, and hopefully it really won’t be all that long until the new site launches. TTDAlter 4.1 will also be released soon: keep an eye out on the TT Station for that.

TTDX Editor 1.10.15 released

Filed under:
  • Site News
— orudge @ 11/10/2003 12:00 am

Uhm… please be aware that when I say "soon", I really mean "when I have time", which, these days, is "some time a long way away from today". Anyway, I’ve found time to work on TTDX Editor, and have fixed a major bug which would mean that new games started with TTDPatch 2.0 would not load into the Editor. Click here to go to the TTDX Editor page and to download the update.

Sorry for the lack of updates recently – it’s been a very busy summer! I’ll update the Awards page and so on soon. Anyway, I am now the owner of TTDX Editor, a program that lets you modify many aspects of Transport Tycoon Deluxe saved games. TTDX Editor 1.10.14 has now been released, with various important updates to make the Editor work with saved games saved by TTDPatch 1.9.1 alpha 32 or higher, as well as a smattering of bug fixes. www.owenrudge.co.uk problems, plus the June award

Filed under:
  • Site News
— orudge @ 01/07/2003 12:00 am

If you’ve tried to access the site via www.owenrudge.co.uk recently, you will have received a domain expiry message. Due to problems with the domain registrar being unable to accept my credit card, it’s possible I may not be able to renew this domain for a couple of years – at the moment, I’m not too sure and am trying to sort things out. Please point people to www.owenrudge.net in future, not .co.uk. As I’ve promised for the past couple of months, I will be launching my new site sometime soon, but I’m very busy so cannot say exactly when this will be.

I’ve given the June award to Channel 4’s Big Brother site. Either you love Big Brother or you hate it… I personally fit into the first category (in particular this year as there is someone from Orkney on the series, which is where I live!). Channel 4’s Big Brother site has a nice design, and is constantly updated every day with news on the housemates, the weekly task, and other features. You can talk about Big Brother in the forums, and also vote online if you register with BT (requires a credit card). Click here for more information.

Doesn’t time fly!

— orudge @ 09/05/2003 12:00 am

May already, and I’ve still not done a great deal with this site! However, you may have noticed it is now on a new server – I have moved the site over to owenrudge.net from uklinux to ease maintenance. If you notice any problems, please e-mail me on the address above. The new design is getting a lot closer too – I should have the design at the weekend, and once my exams are finished in a couple of weeks, will start work on integrating and updating all the old content. In other news, there is now a UK download mirror, bringing the total mirror count to 5: 3 in the USA, 1 in France and 1 in the UK.

I’ve given the April award to The Monkey Island SCUMM Bar, a brilliant site about the Monkey Island games by LucasArts. The site has a great design, and plenty of content to keep you busy. In addition, it is regularly updated with Monkey Island news, and has an active forum about the game. Check it out! If you’re not a Monkey Island fan, you should be! Click here to go to the Awards page.

March award, Winamp Control Centre 1.2 and site news

Filed under:
  • Site News
— orudge @ 01/04/2003 12:00 am

First of all, the March 2003 award goes to Amazon.co.uk, probably the UK’s best known online shopping site. Amazon carries thousands of DVDs, videos, CDs, books, plus computer software and hardware, home electronics, even kitchenware! Price-cutting special offers are regular, and delivery is prompt. Highly recommended! Click here to go to the Awards page.

Next, I have some news about the transition to owenrudge.net: the new design should be completed by the end of April, and I will then start migrating all the content over, and updating a lot of it. I have exams in May, so will be quite busy then, but I hope to have the site up at the end of May or start of June – possibly before then. Finally, the France (TuxFamily) download mirror is no more, but we still have several other high-capacity mirrors, including 3 in the USA and 1 other in France. If you think you could host a mirror, please contact me!

Finally, Winamp Control Centre 1.2 has been released. This has several enhancements to WINAMPCC.EXE: you can now have Winamp automatically load when you run WINAMPCC.EXE, and it can be automatically hidden at load too.

And the February award goes to…

Filed under:

— orudge @ 03/03/2003 12:00 am

Sorry about the lack of updates recently, I’ve been very busy, especially with exams and other work. This last week I was also on an Outward Bound Scotland course, which was excellent – the only problem was the week was too short! Anyway, I’ve decided to award the February award to PHP.net, the official PHP home page. It provides a lot of information on PHP (which this site is powered by), as well as documentation, examples and more. Includes links to newsgroups, mailing lists and forums where you can get help with PHP. If you’re a PHP developer, or are interested in web development, this site is recommended. Click here to go to the Awards page. Finally, I hope the new version of Owen’s Transport Tycoon Station will launch soon – within the next month, I’m hoping. Keep checking for details!

Loads of games can be played, including freely downloadable games and commercial games such as Age of Empires and Flight Simulator, plus many others. Well worth a visit. owenrudge.net Download System migration almost complete

Filed under:
  • Site News
— orudge @ 02/01/2003 12:00 am

Most of the downloads on the site have now been migrated to the new download system. Some of the saved games available at the Transport Tycoon Station haven’t been migrated yet, but apart from that, everything else should be working now. I have also taken this opportunity to make several small updates to various pages.

Happy New Year!

Filed under:
  • Site News
— orudge @ 01/01/2003 12:00 am

I hope you all had a great Christmas! 2003 should be an interesting year for owenrudge.co.uk. As you might have noticed, the site is gradually becoming owenrudge.net – downloads are being migrated to a new system, and there will soon be a whole overhaul of the site, including a new design, new and updated content, and so on. What else is happening? Well, I have taken over Adam Trevorrow’s Transport Tycoon Depository, which is becoming part of Owen’s Transport Tycoon Station. The new combined site is getting a brand new design and again, new and updated content. Keep checking back here for more information!

Finally, the December 2002 Award has gone to Dan’s 20th Century Abandonware, a very interesting site with information, screenshots, etc on hundreds of older programs for DOS, Windows, GEM, Macintosh and other platforms. Click here for more information.

Migration to owenrudge.net Download System

Filed under:

— orudge @ 15/12/2002 12:00 am

I am starting to migrate downloads to the new owenrudge.net Download System. This includes several mirrors, so you can pick the fastest mirror near you to download from. Currently, some of the Transport Tycoon and GEM downloads have been migrated. When you click a download link, you will get another page which lets you pick a mirror. In future, you will be able to choose a default mirror and the download will automatically start. If you have any problems with the new system, e-mail me.

TTDAlter 4.0.9 Beta released

Filed under:
  • Site News
— orudge @ 14/12/2002 12:00 am

I have released version 4.0.9 beta of TTDAlter. This contains various new features from 4.0.8, including Disasters support (change when certain disasters occur), bug fixes, and more. 4.0.9 beta does not rely on having existing versions installed, but if you have TTDAlter 4.0-4.0.8 installed, the Setup program will upgrade it automatically. See the TTDAlter page for more information.

October award, plus Transport Tycoon news

Filed under:
  • Site News
— orudge @ 06/11/2002 12:00 am

… TTDPatch.net. TTDPatch is a brilliant patch for Transport Tycoon Deluxe – indeed, it is the patch for TTD. It includes many enhancements, new features, bug fixes, and so on. TTDPatch 1.9 was released very recently – go and get it now if you don’t already! Click here to go to the Awards page.

On the subject of TTD, The Transport Tycoon Forums had a successful launch a few days ago – please do check them out if you enjoy the game, if you have a problem, or just want to meet up with fellow gamers and have a chat. Enjoy!

Finally, I will be releasing a Transport Tycoon Deluxe Utility Pack soon. This will have all the major TTD tools in one convenient package (currently about 5.7mb in size) – TTDPatch (plus full documentation), TTDAlter, TTDX Editor, TTDX Configurator, the Saved Game Manager, GRFCodec and SV1Codec, plus a handy auto-update utility. The update utility will take advantage of the new owenrudge.net Download System currently in development to access the latest releases of the tools spread across the owenrudge.net mirrors. Transport Tycoon Saved Game Manager and TTDAlter will be adopted to take advantage of this new system soon too. A new release of TTSGM is on the horizon, which features a new Office XP-style customizable menu and toolbar system, which will be accessible from an extended plug-in system. New plug-ins planned include a system where you can associate a TTDPatch configuration file with every saved game, edit it (via TTDX Configurator) and launch TTDPatch with the new settings, all from a new TTDPatch menu. Another plug-in will let you select game(s) to e-mail, and will then compress them into a ZIP (or CSG if you prefer, which is just a ZIP with extended information for the Manager) and open up a new e-mail message with the files attached. Keep an eye out here for more information coming soon.
